Student Resources Powerpoint
The LE 1020 Student Resources group project. Originally created in Keynote, then converted to PowerPoint, the presentation is filled with helpful information, and media about the many different resources available to students.
ReflectionThis assignment was enlightening to the presence of such profound student resources available at SLCC. Without this assignment I would never have shown interest in many of the opportunities SLCC presents outside of the classroom. The class spent most of the first class period exploring the campus, and it's resources. Though time consuming, the department heads had much to say. Many of them were very excited to share what they knew, and to get us involved in their service or club. The experience was worth the time, and the presentation was worth the effort.

Language center assignment
The language center assignment was a project that students had to present about the language center's resources, staff, and purpose.
ReflectionThe Language Center assignment was quite a confusing assignment. There was an instruction sheet that was not explained in class, and what was explained was vague. The essay wasn't confusing, the tri-fold portion, and presentation caused the confusion. The assignment itself was an eye-opener to the resources the Language Center provides. When I take a language course, I will utilize this resource to it's fullest.

Critical thinking: asking questions
The quiz assignment was an activity students had to write and quiz each other about. In the assignment we used one question from each chapter we had finished in the book, and one question we wrote ourselves.
ReflectionThe quiz question assignment is designed to show students how to develop meaningful, and challenging questions. This assignment provided me with an opportunity just that useful. I got to see first hand the difficulty in finding challenging questions that are not too difficult to answer.

Home made study skills youtube project
The study skills youtube project was an assignment students had to film and present to the class. We had to research some of the study skills in our textbook and create a short film about how to use five of them.
The video below, and all content held within, belong to the publisher of the youtube account "Mereknom".

ReflectionThe Study Skills Youtube project was a great example of student leadership. We, as LE 1020 students, had the chance to take advantage of the study resources in our textbook and share them with other students. At the same time I was able to fully understand how each skill was meant to be used and combined with other skills. I can only hope other students will take advantage of this opportunity.

John d. rockefeller research project
The Research project for LE 1020 was assigned to give students practice at using the database resources the library assigns. The project was supposed to contain a short history about a historic individual who overcame educational challenges to succeed.
ReflectionThe Historical Figure Research Project was a difficult project. This was my first opportunity to write a significantly sized paper on such a small subject. Aside from being challenging, it offered much to learn about the history of the Rockefeller family and their contribution to Capitalism. I believe I learned more than I expected to from this assignment.

Cartoon Budget Project
The cartoon budget project, students had to create a budget for living on their own.
ReflectionThis project provided me with insight into the future of my finances. It is clear that living is expensive, and if you budget well you can keep your costs down. Controlling your impulses and controlling your money will help with keeping your costs down.

Road map final project
The road map final project, students had to create a road map of their future, a ten year plan that would outline the steps they would take to succeed in life.
ReflectionThis final project was indeed a worthwhile opportunity to assess my future and figure out where I plan to be in a few years. With my whole life ahead of me, at the very least after this project I have some idea of what I imagine that life should be like.

Class Reflection
LE 1020 Essentials of College study.
Many of my friends in High School encountered many problems with certain tasks teachers assigned. Often times it didn't make sense when a teacher would talk about taking notes and reviewing them at home. The reason why it mostly didn't make any sense is because High School students are never given a specific class where they can learn to become a good student. It is simply expected that the student knows how to study, review, and LEARN already. Essentials of College Study put an end to this dilemma, in this class I had the opportunity to learn what I had heard so much about. As it turns out, studying isn't all that hard, and taking notes isn't difficult. I learned that it is not that difficult to learn, it just requires effort. I am no longer ignorant to study skills. The class didn't stop teaching me there though, I learned of the databases available to me for research. Out of it all I believe the databases were the most important to my education. One other invaluable resource was the ePortfolio assignment, as a web designer I already knew how to make a website; however, having the knowledge of a friendly user interface website creator that is free was more exciting than ever. I took full advantage of this assignment and put most of my effort into it. Over all, LE 1020 was an invaluable class that I am grateful was available to me at SLCC.
